Tiny Flying Dinosaurs

My name is Yan. I post photos that I take, which are of local bands a lot of the time. I tend to reblog a lot of things that make me laugh, and occasionaly I write a proper post about something.

Come On, Baby, Let’s Do The Cringe

chewingontinfoil:

Here are the lyrics to our new song. The links go to you tube videos of the songs they reference.

You can listen to it here or you can buy the 7” here.

Come on, Baby, Let’s do the Cringe
.
Every night I am walking around this room with my hands clasped tight, what am I like?
I’m sinking in my living room to rhythms that are never quite right.
What’s the lesson in these lines? I’m just cringing the night away.
Melodies don’t let me down.
They lie with me on the ground.
They tell me it’s okay to fall.
So drop the needle, start again.
How could I know when I was singing “End of The Line” at 12 years old that now I’d fold in two when I hear that song on the radio.
Trust your intuition” They’re words that I believe.
Now the songs I loved when I was young are starting to apply to me. *
Oh! Darling, I’m just cringing the night away, yeah, just cringing the night away.
Melodies don’t let me down.
They lie with me on the ground.
They tell me it’s okay to fall.
Take a deep, deep breath. ‘Cause nothing’s ever life or death.
Not by any stretch, please think of all that you have left.
How am I expected to grow? It’s all too cynical.

This is cool! One of the links seems to be broken though - I assume it’s the Smokey Robinson one, since that’s in the tags and didn’t open for me.

Experimenting with trying to generate that 3D gif effect with only one photo. Don’t think I’ve quite cracked it yet, although the second one is getting there.

This is a picture of Chewing on Tinfoil, a really good local ska-punk band you should all listen to. Even if the words ska-punk instantly put you off, you should still check them out; they’re one of only maybe three ska-punk bands I like.

Chewing on Tinfoil

tyrannosaursinf14sradio:

I’ve played Chewing on Tinfoil a few times on the show now (and their gig this Friday is where I’ll be instead of being on the radio, you should go too!). You can get a bunch of their stuff for free/donation online too:

Most of their best songs are on their EP from last year, Shaving, which is only €4 to download on Bandcamp, so you should get that too!

I think I have been conditioned to think underlined text is mispelled. I keep thinking I misspelled ‘their’ in this post, but I didn’t.

Anyway, follow my radio show’s blog! You can listen to all of the previous shows I’ve done and I’ve been posting links to music you can get for free on it this week.

Another mix! Damn it Rob, I’m carrying this blog.
mixesforfriends:

MFF#14: (Shut) Up The Punx!
This is version two of a mix I made for this blog and then apparently accidentally deleted. Naturally it is not as good as the first one, but it is still pretty good! It is some of my favourite punk songs from the previous decade. Originally I was going to avoid getting too subgenre-y with it, but then I realised I didn’t have enough pure punk where’s the fun in that? So this has a loose enough definition of punk.
The photo is cropped from one I took when Bomb The Music Industry! played in Dublin last year. People in the photo that I can identify, l-r: (1) Possibly tinyorc? I don’t know her very well, (2) BTMI tromboner*, (3) Stu Daly from Chewing On Tinfoil, (4) A Guy from Give It A Year, (5) Jeff Rosenstock from Bomb The Music Industry!. Also lurking in the background is Saul, with whom every single person in Dublin my age is at least slightly acquainted. Seriously, I once asked a friend from Cork if she knew him and she said “No, but I think I’ve heard of him”.
Anyway, the tracklist for this:
RVIVR - Rain Down
Bomb The Music Industry! - Does Your Face Hurt? No? ‘Cause It’s Killin’ Me!!!
Laura Stevenson and the Cans - Landslide Song/The Dig
Against Me! - Slurring the Rhythms
Andrew Jackson Jihad - We Didn’t Come Here To Rock
Latterman - An Oad To Jon Contra, Part 2
Pudge - Chippy Tea
Chewing on Tinfoil - Shaving
La Dispute - Nobody, Not Even The Rain
Hightide Hotel - I Know What The Word Gone Means
Future Of The Left - Lapsed Catholics
Melt-Banana - If it is the Deep Sea, I Can See you There
The Blood Brothers - Laser Life
Cursive - Art is Hard
Fucked Up - Queen of Hearts
The Magnetic Fields - Punk Love
Lemuria - Dog
Shang-A-Lang - I Must Be Damned
O Pioneers!!! - Do You Remember That Part In Superman III, Where He Is All Badass And Stuff? Yeah, I Bet That’s How You Feel Right Now
Noumenon - Baby, Baby Teeth
Calvinball - Goodnight, Sweet Prince
Circle Takes The Square - In The Nervous Light Of Sunday
RVIVR - Change On Me
*Do you find something funny about the word tromboner?

I made this for tumblr/my own amusement a while ago, and it got reblogged all over the place. Seems like reposting it here would be a good idea! This is pretty much the first of these mixes to actually stick to its theme: folk, anti-folk ad folk-punk. Basically any good folk-based stuff I felt like adding to it. There is now a part two, but I’ll save that for later.
Tracklist:
We Versus The Shark: Suddenly it’s a Folk Song (Future of the Left cover)
Andrew Jackson Jihad: Brave as a Noun
Defiance, Ohio: Enough
Mischief Brew: Roll Me Through the Gates of Hell
This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb: Body Count
Sledding With Tigers: Going to Georgia (The Mountain Goats cover)
Chewing on Tinfoil: Along the Way (MysterEP version)
Leah Lou: Drunk, Stupid and Used
Heathers: Reading in the Dark
Paul Baribeau: If I Knew
Jeffrey Lewis: The Chelsea Hotel Oral Sex Song
Laura Stevenson and the Cans: A Shine to It
Devendra Banhart: A Sight to Behold
RVIVR: Real Mean (Acoustic)
Apologies, I Have None: Bent Strings
Leonard Cohen: Partisan
The Mountain Goats: Best Ever Death Metal Band
Against Me!: Pints of Guinness Make You Strong
Gogol Bordello: Wanderlust King
O’Death: Lowtide
Crywank: Thomas Saunders Gang Chant
Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan: Revolver

This is actually probably my third time posting it, but it got me a whole bunch of follwoers the first time, so maybe it will work for the new blog too!
